Claire Bernice Graber Rudnitsky (6/21/1930-5/26/2021) was born in Philadelphia, PA on the 1st day of summer in 1930. She graduated from Overbrook High School in 1948. She married Martin (Marty) Rudnitsky Dec. 11, 1949 in her parents Wynnefield home.
Claire settled in as the consumate homemaker, raising their 3 children from their Pennsauken, NJ home while her husband got his fledgeling business off the ground. At the same time she began volunteering at her synagogue, Beth Jacob in Merchantville, NJ ultimately managing their commercial kitchen operations.
Then in 1973, Claire and Marty moved to Wilmington, DE to purchase the Smoke Shop at Delaware Ave and DuPont Streets, a Delaware institution. Customers included DuPonts, Wyeths, and then Senator Joe Biden.
After the death of her husband in 1989, Claire ran the store with her son Steven until 2001.
Claire enjoyed her retirement traveling and taking cruises. She resided at Lodge Lane and then the Kutz Home in Wilmington, DE.
She never lost sight of her deep Jewish roots, being extremely philanthropic to numerous organizations in and around Wilmington over the years.
Claire was preceded in death by her parents; Abraham and Anna (Meltz) Graber, her husband Marty, and one son Steven. She is survived by 2 sisters; Shirley Felinton Cowen of Maryland, and Jean (Graber) Green of Hillsboro Beach, Florida, and two children; Marsha Ciccolo (Walter) of Sarasota, Florida and Kevin Rudnitsky (Deanna) of Newark, Delaware.
Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren. BERSCHLER and SHENBERG
