Judge Joseph H. Reiter, ret., of Cherry Hill, NJ and Boynton Beach, FL,
passed away on Tuesday, June 16, 2020. He was 91.
Joe was born in Phila. and raised in Perkasie (Bucks County). He returned
to Phila. and attended Frankford High School where he was a star pole-vaulter.
He then attended Temple University followed by Temple University School of
Law. After finishing law school Joe entered the U.S. Army and was stationed on
Okinawa.
After discharge from the Army, Joe became a civil attorney advisor to the
U.S. Army before becoming an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of
Pennsylvania. He then became the Chief of the Organized Crime & Racketeering
Strike Force for Western New York State. This was followed by becoming a
Senior Trial Attorney in the Tax Division of the U.S. Department of Justice and
then he became Regional Director of the Office of Drug Abuse Law Enforcement
(ODALE). He then became the Director of Drug Law Enforcement Office of PA.
In 1978 Joe became a partner in the law firm of Stassen, Kostos & Mason
which became the firm of Kostos, Reiter & Lamer. In 1989 he became a judge
on the Armed Services Board of Contract Appeals. When he retired from the
ASBCA he became of counsel to the firm of Kostos & Lamer.
Joe was a member of American Bar Association, Phila. Bar Association,
D.C. Bar Association, Federal Bar Association, Pan American Association and
the American Legion.
Joe was a fascinating, intelligent, funny, charming guy who was known for
his honesty, integrity, respect and dignity.
Joe was the son of the late Nicholas Reiter, Sr. and Barbara (Hellmann)
Reiter and the brother of the late Nicholas Reiter, Jr. He was married to the late
Irene M. Reiter and to the late Judge Merna Marshall Reiter.
He is survived by his present wife, Beverlee (Babs) Bearman-Reiter, two
nieces, Juliet Reiter Gill and Karin Reiter Berson. He is also survived by his
goddaughter, Lisa Ferraro Feller.
